| PRODIGI |
In Italy, in the last few years individuals, groups and associations have shown an increasing interest in the issues of the so-called Digital Divide: hence the urge of creating an organization to put together such resources to try to overcome this new form of social exclusion.
In March 2003 these people decided to put up Prodigi and to start committing themselves into projects and activities in the field.
At the moment Prodigi gathers professionals in various subjects, from experts in computer science to anthropologists, communication specialists and NGO workers. During the first phase of activity they all have been offering their services voluntarily.
Computers recycling and intensive training on free software:
a Prodigi's Project in Tunisia.
In August 2003 Prodigis Team, consisting of 13 volunteers, went to Gabes and Kerchaou Oasis (Southern Tunisia) to install two computer labs. The hardware was obtained as a donation by an Italian Agency. We chose to install GNU/Linux System on these computers.
The project team has also held two training classes, each one of two weeks (the first one for trainers and the second for mediators), with the participation of 30 beneficiaries, mostly women and young people coming from different areas of Southern Tunisia.
The project has been realized in partnership with the Italian NGO Alisei and the Union Tunisienne de Solidaritè Sociale.
Prodigi also organized a two days event to introduce the computer lab to the community of Kerchaou: adults and kids enjoyed videos, film, painting and playing together in the oasis community center.
